DIABETES UK NORTH STAFFS VOLUNTARY GROUP consists entirely of volunteers with no paid officers. We organise fund raising events such as Jumble Sales, sponsored walks, coffee mornings, fun runs, flags days, book sales, spring and winter fairs. Our organisation is made up of individuals and their families who have been affected by Diabetes and also supporters.

DIABETES UK North Staffs Voluntary Group is run by local people who have made it their personal goal to assist in any way possible and to raise funds to enable further research into Diabetes.

Our group also raises funds in order to facilitate educational events, social events and talks. Our work is tailored to raise public AWARENESS of Diabetes and to enhance the perception of Diabetes within the local community.

The group is fully inclusive and aspires to be representative of the diversity of Diabetes sufferers found within the local community of North Staffordshire. We actively encourage the uptake of membership by individuals and their families whose lives have been touched by Diabetes and we also welcome membership from supporters and persons who hold an interest in our work.

To raise money for Diabetes research

To publicise the Diabetes cause

To educate diabetics of all ages to minimise the effect of this disease and to become independent and knowledgeable about their own condition

The North Staffs voluntary Group overall aim is to help and to care for people with diabetes and those who care for them.

To raise funds for diabetic research.

To educate the general public as well as those with diabetes and carers of diabetics.

To help local diabetics- the need to be determined by the Committee (not financial)

To liase with the local hospital, Diabetes Centre and clinic.

Diabetes is a disease, which can affect anybody at anytime and at any age regardless of how healthy they may be. For the moment there is no known cure for diabetes but research and work continues to address this shortfall. Diabetes is a disease that causes the body to experience problems in relation to the use , distribution and processing of blood sugar (glucose) within the blood. Sometimes, but not always this can lead to blood vessel damage, blindness, kidney failure, heart disease and imputations. For many the thought of suffering with such a terrible disease would seem daunting, but as many of the North Staffs Branch members and their families will testify the condition can be controlled and managed leading to a full and active life.

If you or your family has concerns about the clinical aspects of diabetes, diagnosis and treatment your first point of call should always be your general practitioner (GP), your local hospital/diabetes centre or your health care worker.

Diabetes UK exists for every one of the millions of people with diabetes in the United Kingdom and for the millions who are their carers and family. Diabetes UK helps them by providing information and support and by financial assistance for scientific research to investigate and alleviate complications. Diabetes UK works in partnership with its members and also the Royal Colleges and Professional bodies.  As a collective we continue to maintain a reputation as the leading authority in the field of diabetes.

DIABETES UK has over four hundred voluntary branches throughout the United Kingdom. Each local group, which is run and managed by local people helps to provide support and guidance within its own area and adheres to the aims and values of DIABETES UK at a local level. The North Staffs voluntary Group fully subscribes to this philosophy.
